I am a big fan of #Buzz for transcription. I would use #ffmpeg to extract the audio

ffmpeg -i file.mkv -vn -c:a copy audio.mka

and then put that in there and it generates pretty okay .srt subtitles with timestamps, pauses etc!

I am a big fan of the "Store and Release" model regarding #proprietary software.

A public entity would get access to all the source code and store it securely, and if a company stops operating or simply warranties and patents are expired, all source code gets released.

It is cool if a company says "if we were unable to publish any updates for 12 months, we will for sure be able to clean up the codebase and #opensource it".

That is simply not the case most of the time, unless they already use a single or a few private #git repos / forges with good git hygiene (cough #Winamp)

Theming, well you can install easy theme extensions or actually use UserChrome.css which I bet you can't on Melia. Though of course that is hacky.

Thunderbird is a very complex piece of software. Also it has #PGP support which is crucial at least for signing to proof your authenticity. There is no alternative!

It has soo many features and I suppose a lot of services will be included in Thunderbird Mail.

One note about drawy: this looks fine, but I'd generally recommend using Libreoffice Draw instead, if you sacrifice the infinite zoom feature. The connectors that Libreoffice Draw offers are a game changer, since you can move around elements that you drew and the connector lines move along with them, so if you have an arrow that points to a rectangle box and you move the rectangle at any point, the arrow will automatically follow it and always point to it

I was a heavy user of AutoHotKey on Windows. The lack of a well-functioning global text expansion tool would almost have been a deal-breaker for switching to another OS. Thankfully, Espanso works great on Linux Mint X11. To my knowledge it should also work on Wayland. Don’t know why Nick couldn’t get it to work.
I also use Easy Effects as a global equalizer and am more than happy with it.
